Price control falters in Pindi

The District Price Control Magistrates in Rawalpindi appear powerless to contain the relentless escalation in fruit and vegetable prices, as essential commodities continue to soar despite official oversight.

Tomatoes are retailing at Rs450 per kilogram, while peas have reached Rs480 per kg, with no signs of stabilisation.

Prices of other staple vegetables have also surged sharply.

In the open market, potatoes are selling for Rs110 per kg, onions for Rs180 per kg, garlic for Rs600 per kg, ginger for Rs800 per kg, and capsicum for Rs350 per kg.

Meanwhile, radish stands at Rs100 per kg, carrots at Rs150 per kg, local lemons at Rs350 per kg, bitter gourd at Rs170 per kg, ladyfingers at Rs220 per kg, pumpkin at Rs160 per kg, and green coriander at Rs50 per bunch.
