Newlywed woman shot shooting TikTok video

KARACHI:

The craze for TikTok has claimed yet another life in Karachi, where a newlywed woman died after being accidentally shot while recording a video with her husband in Gulistan-e-Jauhar's Pehlwan Goth.

According to police, 22-year-old Farzana was injured on Friday when a bullet struck her head during a TikTok shoot at her residence near Pakistan Store. She was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar SHO Inspector Kashif Rabbani said police have arrested the victim's husband, Ghulam Mustafa, and seized the unlicensed 9mm pistol used in the incident. The suspect, a house painter by profession, told investigators that he had bought the weapon from Kashmore.

Police said Mustafa married Farzana in September this year, and their formal wedding ceremony was scheduled soon. Farzana, originally from Kandhkot, had recently arrived in Karachi with her father and sister for a visit. Her mother had returned home two days earlier to collect her pension.

During the fatal incident, Farzana - who was known to make TikTok videos - was filming with her husband, who was holding the pistol. She reportedly asked him if the gun was loaded, to which he replied in the negative. Farzana then placed the gun's barrel to her temple as part of the video and told her husband to pull the trigger.

As soon as he did, the weapon fired, and the bullet pierced through her head. Police said the pistol had a live round chambered.
