Assassin’s Creed Shadows confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 with 2 December release date
Ubisoft confirms Assassin’s Creed Shadows launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on 2 December, priced at £49.99

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on December 2, priced at $59.99 / £49.99. The announcement follows several leaks surrounding the title’s arrival on Nintendo’s upcoming console.
The Switch 2 version will include all post-launch updates released since the game’s debut, along with cross-progression support across all platforms. It will also feature touch screen functionality to make navigating menus, maps, and the in-game hideout more intuitive.
Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be distributed as a Game-Key Card title, meaning players must download the game before playing.
Game-Key Cards have been a source of debate among Nintendo fans, as they require an active internet connection to access content.
A Ubisoft developer previously defended the format while working on the Switch version of Star Wars Outlaws, stating that the decision was related to the console’s data read speeds and cartridge limitations.
Similarly, Final Fantasy VII Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi recently commented that developers are opting for Game-Key Cards to improve performance rather than to reduce production costs.
Nintendo has reportedly issued surveys to gauge user feedback on the balance between digital downloads and physical media for the new hardware.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows allows players to choose between a Shinobi or a Samurai while exploring Feudal Japan, including castle towns, ports, shrines, and rural landscapes. IGN’s review awarded the game an 8/10, praising its refined open-world systems and gameplay design.
The announcement coincides with recent internal changes at Ubisoft, including the departure of long-time Assassin’s Creed franchise boss Marc-Alexis Côté, who stated on LinkedIn that his exit after 15 years with the series “was not of [his] own free will.”
