Demonstration: Power company employees protest possible privatization
Labour leaders criticise government’s policy, accuse them of trying to privatise national assets such as power plants.
SUKKUR:
Hundreds of Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) employees rallied outside the National Press Club, Sukkur on Wednesday to protest against the proposed privatisation of power plants.
The protesting employees were with the Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union led by its leaders Zahid Hussain Shah, Badarul-Islam and others. They took to the streets at Mohammad Bin Qasim Park, marched to the press club and sat there for an hour.
The labour leaders criticised the government’s policy and accused them of trying to privatise national assets such as the Steel Mills, Wapda and railways and are now after power plants. They used the privatisation of the Karachi Electric Supply Company as an example, saying that it was a huge mistake and the employees were exploited in the process.
