The ex factor: Nurse bludgeoned by former husband
Doctors say Shazia is in critical condition, police have yet to registered case.
FAISALABAD:
A nurse working at the Tehsil Headquarter (THQ) Hospital in Sammundri was seriously injured by her ex-husband on Tuesday.
According to hospital officials, Sammundri resident Latif Masih married Shazia Padras eight years ago but the couple recently separated after quarrels over finances and Latif’s alleged alcoholism.
On Tuesday, Shaiza was at work at the THQ Hospital, when Latif Masih turned up in the hospital and demanded her cell phone. “He began yelling at her and hurling abuses. He said he wanted to check who had been calling her and accused her of having an affair,” said Wajeeha. “When she refused to give him the phone, he hit her and smashed her head into a wall,” said an administrator.
Latif allegedly picked up a brick and smashed it on Shazia’s head. She was ultimately rescued by hospital staff but is in serious condition. Shazia has been admitted to the emergency ward. “Her condition is critical because she has suffered severe head trauma,” said Dr Nazar Khanullah. When contacted, SHO Masood Nazir said that the police was informed about the incident and were also issued a ‘docket’ for issuance of a medico-legal certificate of the injured nurse. “We got the documents but the nurse did not show up to file the case so we cannot register it or arrest anyone,” he said. “How can the nurse file the case when she is unconscious? We have sent a report but the police don’t want to do anything,” doctors at the hospital said.
