Israel's move to annex West Bank slammed

Pakistan, OIC & Arab states call move 'blatant violation of international law'

ISLAMABAD:

A group of Muslim nations, including Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, and others, has jointly condemned Israel's latest move to impose its so-called sovereignty over the occupied West Bank, calling it a "blatant violation of international law" and a direct assault on the rights of the Palestinian people.

In a joint statement issued by the Foreign Office on Thursday said 17 countries and two major regional organisations including the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) denounced the Israel's Knesset's approval of two draft laws aimed at annexing the occupied West Bank and recognizing illegal settlements.

The statement declared that Israel has "no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory" and accused Tel Aviv of deliberately attempting to alter the "demographic composition, character and status" of Palestinian land in violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The countries welcomed the ICJ's advisory opinion issued on October 22, 2025, which reaffirmed Israel's obligations under international humanitarian law to ensure essential supplies for the population in the Occupied Palestinian Territory - including Gaza - and to facilitate humanitarian relief through the United Nations and its agencies, particularly UNRWA.

The court, they noted, confirmed that the use of starvation as a method of warfare is prohibited and reminded Israel of its duty to refrain from mass deportations or creating intolerable living conditions.

The ICJ also reaffirmed the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and independent statehood, while reiterating that Israel's territorial claim over East Jerusalem is "null and void."
