Rapper Drake surprised fans this week after replying to a student’s direct message (DM) asking him for a senior quote — by writing an entire rap verse instead. The exchange, first shared by hip-hop news account @Kurrco on X (formerly Twitter), quickly went viral and inspired a wave of memes and speculation across social media.

The fan messaged Drake’s Instagram handle @champagnepapi asking him to “hook [them] up w a senior quote.” The 39-year-old Canadian rapper replied with several poetic bars, including:

After receiving the response, the fan expressed shock, to which Drake humorously replied, “Might be too long but ur goated if they let you bar up.”

The interaction quickly fueled a mix of admiration and jokes online. Some users praised the verse’s flow, calling it “tuff” and “goated,” while others humorously suggested it was written by ghostwriters or even generated by AI. One user commented, “The ghostwriters really cooked on this one,” while another claimed, “Yeah, this is ChatGPT.”

The viral moment comes as Drake approaches his 39th birthday on October 24, amid reports he’s working on a new album titled Iceman. Meanwhile, restaurant chain Dave’s Hot Chicken — in which the rapper is an investor — announced free sliders for fans to celebrate his birthday.
