LAPD freeway chase ends in suspect’s death on 110 Freeway in Los Angeles

A suspected car thief died Monday night after exiting a moving van during a police pursuit on Los Angeles’ 110 Freeway. The chase was broadcast live on local news channels.
The pursuit began shortly after 8:30 pm when the driver of a van, believed to be stolen, did not stop for an LAPD officer. The suspect led police onto the freeway, and shortly before 9 pm, the van collided with the northbound center divider near the Avenue 43 exit in Montecito Heights.
The suspect climbed out of the driver’s side window while the van was still in motion.
After falling from the divider, the suspect entered the southbound lanes and was struck by several vehicles.

Emergency personnel provided aid at the scene, but the suspect was pronounced dead. A dog found inside the van was safely removed by animal control.
The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shortly after 10 pm, which lasted for several hours, affecting southbound traffic on the freeway.
