The consumers are set to get a relief of Rs0.36 per unit on account of the fuel adjustment for September 2025.
The Central Power Purchasing AgencyG (CPPA-G) has sought a reduction of Rs0.3681 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) due to a decrease in the cost of electricity generation.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) will hold a public hearing on October 29, 2025, to deliberate on the fuel charges adjustment (FCA) following data submitted by the CPPA-G.
According to Nepra, the hearing will examine variations in fuel costs and their impact on electricity tariffs for consumers. The regulatory mechanism allows the Authority to adjust tariffs on a monthly basis to reflect actual fuel cost fluctuations in the power generation mix, ensuring accurate cost pass-through to consumers in line with the federal government's policy guidelines.
Data submitted by CPPA-G shows that total energy generation in September 2025 stood at 12,592 gigawatt-hours (GWh). Hydel power contributed the largest share at 37.99%, followed by nuclear at 17.69%, RLNG at 14.41%, and local coal at 9.56%.
The reference fuel cost was Rs7.6554 per kWh, compared to an actual cost of Rs7.28 per unit, reflecting a proposed decrease of Rs0.3681 per kWh.
The adjustment is mainly driven by variations in the cost and availability of different fuel sources. Hydel generation remained the cheapest at Rs0.1563 per kWh, while imported coal and RLNG were among the most expensive inputs, with average costs of Rs13.7379 and Rs21.1927 per kWh, respectively.
