Woman attacked, tortured in market in Punjab

Police sources indicate altercation began when Bibi went to shop owned by suspects to complain about domestic dispute

BHAKKAR:

A woman was assaulted in a crowded marketplace in the Hyderabad Thal area of Bhakkar.

The victim, Rubina Bibi, a mother of five, was subjected to torture by some influential suspects. In her complaint, the victim maintained that the suspects dragged her through the market, tore her clothes and physically beat her. They also ripped gold earrings from her ears, leaving her injured. The incident came to light after the victim reported the attack.

Police sources indicate that the altercation began when Bibi went to a shop owned by the suspects to complain about a domestic dispute.

Taking immediate notice of the case, District Police Officer (DPO) Bhakkar, Shehzad Rafeek AwAN, ordered the registration of a formal case against the accused, identified as Sajjad, Hassnain, and Hassan.

"Following the immediate notice by DPO Bhakkar, a case has been registered, and the central accused, Sajjad, has been arrested," a police spokesperson confirmed.

"Police teams have been formed to apprehend the remaining accused, with instructions to arrest them within 24 hours."

DPO Shehzad Rafeek Awan provided further context, stating, "The victim and the accused are close relatives. The complete facts will emerge after a further investigation is conducted."

He also emphasised the police's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards violence against women and children.
