KMC to set up EV charging stations

KARACHI:

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced plans to establish electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the city to promote eco-friendly transportation and reduce carbon emissions.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held at the KMC Head Office under the chairmanship of Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who directed relevant departments to begin work on setting up EV charging facilities in key areas of the city. In the first phase, charging stations will be installed along Shahrah-e-Faisal, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road, and Stadium Road.

Mayor said the initiative reflects Karachi's commitment to building a greener and smarter urban future. "This project is not just about installing charging points - it's about enabling citizens to shift from conventional fuel-based transport to cleaner and more sustainable alternatives," he said, adding that KMC will allocate land and develop the facilities using its own resources to ensure quick implementation.
