Is Netflix bringing the ‘Stranger Things’ finale to theaters?
Reports hint at a big-screen plan for the Stranger Things finale

Netflix’s Stranger Things is heading to the big screen for the first time.
According to industry reports, the two-hour series finale of Season 5 will debut in AMC and other theaters on New Year’s Eve, premiering the same day it becomes available on Netflix.
The move marks a major shift for the streamer, which has traditionally limited its theatrical releases. The news comes a week after Variety reported that a theater release had been ruled out by Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bejaria, though that interview was reportedly conducted weeks earlier.
Sources tell Puck that Netflix and AMC have been in talks to expand their collaboration, with discussions between AMC head Adam Aron and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos still underway. While deals are not yet finalized, insiders say the theatrical rollout “is happening.”
The finale, expected to run about two hours, is being described by creators Matt and Ross Duffer as “like a movie.” It’s unclear whether the release will be limited to the United States or include international markets.
Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting the first Stranger Things Season 5 trailer. With Netflix’s official rewatch event wrapping up this weekend, many expect the trailer to drop next week, or possibly on Stranger Things Day, November 6.
Season 5, Volume 1 of Stranger Things premieres in 36 days, with the finale set to close out the beloved series in cinematic fashion.
