KARACHI:

Pakistan's transgender community has announced the Annual Hijra Festival 2025, scheduled for October 25 at Burns Garden, Karachi. The event, organised by leading transgender activists including Kami Chaudhry and Dr Sarah Gill, will bring together participants from across Pakistan and abroad, celebrating transgender identity, unity, and cultural expression.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, the organisers said the third edition of the festival is dedicated to environmental protection under the theme "We stand for our identity, our dignity, our freedom - and for our Earth."

They said the festival aims to promote inclusion, understanding, and solidarity while highlighting the Khawajasira community's collective struggles and aspirations. The organisers thanked the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), city administration, and Sindh police for their support.

The activists urged the government to take steps for the welfare of the community, expressing concern over rising incidents of violence in recent years.
