Baby's body found on balcony
The body of a newborn baby girl was found in the balcony of a house in Christian Town, Korangi No. 1, early Friday morning. Police reached the scene after being informed and shifted the infant's body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) through an Edhi ambulance for legal formalities and postmortem.
According to the house resident, Christopher Javed, the incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. when his mother was leaving for work.
"We found the baby wrapped in a shopping bag in our balcony. When I removed the bag, her head moved slightly, and it seemed she was still breathing," he told Express, adding that the infant appeared to have been born only a short while earlier.
Javed suspected that someone attempted to dump the baby in a garbage bin located behind their house, but she instead fell into their balcony, possibly from a higher floor of a nearby building.
Korangi's Zaman Town SHO Nafeesur Rehman said that the police found the baby dead upon arrival.
"We suspect she was thrown from above, but we are investigating all angles," he stated.
The SHO confirmed that two suspects have been detained for questioning while the postmortem report will determine the cause of death before an FIR is registered.
