Nicki Minaj reportedly wanted to continue filming a music video in 2018 despite an on-set shooting incident involving Kanye West and rapper 6ix9ine.
The revelation came from Tekashi 6ix9ine during his appearance on the Fresh & Fit podcast on October 18, where he revisited the tense moments from the video shoot for their song Mama, part of 6ix9ine’s debut album Dummy Boy. The incident occurred on November 8, 2018, in Beverly Hills when multiple shots were fired at the property where the video was being filmed.
According to TMZ, around eight bullets struck the building, with one entering Nicki Minaj’s dressing room. 6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, revealed that the room had initially been assigned to him, but he offered it to Minaj a day earlier—suggesting that the attack may have been targeted at him.
Despite the chaos, Minaj reportedly told the production team she wanted to keep shooting. “After the shots went off, Nicki called and was like, ‘Still, let’s shoot that sh*t,’” 6ix9ine claimed, adding that she “didn’t care” about the danger.
Kanye West, who was also on set, left the scene shortly after the gunfire. While the production was halted for safety, the rappers later collaborated again on Trollz, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2020.
The 2018 shooting remains one of the most shocking moments in recent hip-hop history, highlighting Nicki Minaj’s fearless commitment to her craft—even in the face of danger.
