Donald Trump has once again stirred political debate with a new meme video suggesting he could remain in power indefinitely.
Shared on Truth Social on Sunday, the post featured a mock Time magazine cover titled “How Trumpism Outlasts Trump,” followed by a montage of campaign signs reading “Trump 2028,” “Trump 2032,” and “Trump 2036,” set to Edvard Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”
President Trump just posted this on Truth. 🤣🤣🤣
TRUMP 4EVA! 🇺🇸🤣 pic.twitter.com/MU7vJbn9EMThe sequence ended with Trump holding a sign marked “Trump 2048,” which then rapidly advanced through the years before revealing the message “Trump 4EVA.” While many interpreted the clip as a joke aimed at Democrats, others viewed it as an unsettling nod to authoritarianism amid ongoing “No Kings” rallies held across the United States to protest the president’s leadership.
The president’s post appeared to mock critics concerned that he might attempt to abolish term limits, despite the 22nd Amendment of the US Constitution restricting presidents to two terms.
Democrats have expressed alarm at Trump’s rhetoric, with California governor Gavin Newsom warning, “I fear that we will not have an election in 2028 – I really mean that in the core of my soul – unless we wake up to the code red of what’s happening in this country.”
Repealing term limits would require a two-thirds vote in both chambers of Congress and ratification by three-fourths of state legislatures.
