Robert De Niro urges continued public resistance against Trump: ‘we can’t let up’

Actor Robert De Niro is urging Americans to continue resisting President Donald Trump, warning that he poses an ongoing threat to democracy. In a recent interview with MSNBC following the nationwide 'No Kings' protests on October 18, De Niro emphasized the importance of maintaining political pressure, stating, “We can’t let up. Cannot let up on him because he is not going to leave the White House. He does not want to leave the White House.”

De Niro argued that public protests are the only way to compel lawmakers to act, asserting that politicians need to fear the public’s reaction more than they fear Trump himself. “That’s the only thing the politicians are going to recognize,” he said. “We have to make them more afraid of the wrath of the people than the wrath of Trump.”

The 'No Kings' protests reportedly drew participation from nearly 7 million people across the country, according to MSNBC. Demonstrators rallied against issues such as increased immigration enforcement, the presence of the National Guard in major cities, and significant cuts to federal programs. The October protests were a follow-up to the original demonstrations held in June.

De Niro, a vocal critic of Trump, has consistently supported the No Kings movement. On October 9, he appeared in a TikTok video posted by the political activist group Indivisible to promote the protests. In the video, he drew a historical parallel to the American Revolution, saying, “The original No Kings protest was 250 years ago. Americans decided they didn’t want to live under the rule of King George III.”

He continued, “Now we have a would-be king who wants to take it away: King Donald the First. F--- that. We’re rising up again, this time, nonviolently raising our voices to declare: No Kings.”

De Niro called Trump a “classic bully” and stressed that the only way to deal with such figures is to stand up and resist.
