Twitch CEO Dan Clancy addresses Emiru assault incident at TwitchCon 2025
Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has addressed the recent assault of streamer Emiru at TwitchCon 2025, telling technology and online culture journalist Taylor Lorenz that creator safety remains a “top priority” for the platform.
In a short clip shared by Lorenz on X, Clancy spoke about the growing safety concerns among streamers following the incident in San Diego, with the full interview set to premiere Wednesday on her YouTube channel.

“The safety of our creators is a top priority,” Clancy said. “The challenge we face is a challenge in today’s society. It’s not limited to Twitch.”
He acknowledged the widespread issue of toxic parasocial behaviour and emphasised Twitch’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its safety tools and event security. “We’re looking very closely at everything that happened there, and I care deeply about Emi. She’s a friend of mine,” he added.
Lorenz asked why streamers should continue to trust Twitch following Emiru’s claim that her assailant was able to cross multiple barriers before reaching her.
Clancy responded, “Even as you do a lot in terms of security in today’s world, there are challenges that can present themselves, especially when someone is putting themselves out there. We try to work very closely with each creator about what they want to do and what works for them.”
Streamer and cosplayer Emiru was assaulted during a meet-and-greet on TwitchCon’s opening day, later saying she “did not feel cared for or protected” by the platform’s response.

Yesterday, the man who assaulted me was allowed to cross multiple barriers at twitchcon and even in front of another creators meet and greet to grab me and my face and try…While Twitch confirmed the individual involved was permanently banned, Emiru disputed parts of the company’s account and announced she would no longer attend future conventions.
Clancy said Twitch is “ramping up” efforts to ensure creators know they have the necessary safety resources and support as the platform reviews its event protocols.
