Women Football Championship: Hajra leads Diya FC’s rout of Army

Scores four in 7-0 win at women’s national event.

KARACHI:
Hajra scored four goals as Diya FC defeated Pakistan Army 7-0 at the National Women Football Championship in Islamabad.

Hajra scored her first three goals in the first half - in the 15th, 29th and 35th minute - before adding her fourth in the 58th minute. Marium scored in the 26th and 34th minute while Rukhsar added one in the 41st minute to complete Army’s demolition.

In the other match, Young Rising Star continued their winning run as they beat Punjab 5-0.

Malika Noor, who scored 14 goals against Margala FC, was in full flow again and scored in the seventh and 27th minutes while Zara Iqbal also netted two goals in the 45th and 63rd minutes.

Earlier, captain Sana Mahmud scored in the 13th minute of the match.

In the last match of the day, Balochistan drew against Margala FC 1-1. Saadia scored the first goal in the 19th minute as Balochistan led 1-0 at the interval. However, Margala FC’s Shagufta Iqbal struck a 55th-minute equaliser.

While the goal-scoring spree at the tournament continued, national coach Tariq Lutfi said that this was not a good sign.

“Where 25 or 18 goals are scored in a match, it means the level of competition is not too high,” Lutfi told The Express Tribune. “This is the qualifying round for the national championship and right now we are just encouraging women footballers but as far as the quality of the game is concerned they don’t have it as yet.”
