Sony’s Horizon Zero Dawn movie to begin filming in 2026, targets 2027 release
Sony confirms Horizon Zero Dawn movie will begin filming in 2026 with a planned theatrical release in 2027

Sony has officially confirmed that its Horizon Zero Dawn live-action movie is moving forward, with filming expected to begin in 2026 and a planned release in 2027.
The update was revealed through a new court filing in Sony’s ongoing lawsuit against Tencent, where fresh details about the project were shared.
According to the filing, Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, stated that the Horizon Zero Dawn movie already has a working script and is currently searching for a director. The film is being developed in partnership with Columbia Pictures, the studio behind Sony’s previous game adaptations Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023).
“We are in development for a film based on Horizon in partnership with Columbia Pictures,” Qizilbash confirmed. “We already have a working script and are actively searching for a director, with the goal of shooting the picture in 2026 and releasing it in 2027.”
The movie will center around Aloy, the protagonist of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, described by Qizilbash as a “key icon” for PlayStation’s growing cinematic universe. No casting details or creative team announcements have been made yet.
The Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation joins an expanding lineup of PlayStation Productions projects, including Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, Amazon’s God of War series, The Last of Us season 3 at HBO/Max, and the upcoming Gravity Rush feature film.
With Horizon Zero Dawn being one of PlayStation’s most acclaimed franchises, fans can expect a visually ambitious and story-driven adventure when the movie hits theaters in 2027.
