Akon is taking an unexpected turn in his musical journey, re-recording his entire catalog as country songs.

In a new Instagram post, the multi-platinum artist revealed plans to reinterpret his pop and R&B hits through a country lens. “Great songs live forever,” he wrote. “It’s just about how you tell the story.”

The accompanying clip captured Akon’s excitement as he confirmed the project, admitting that while many might be skeptical, he’s eager to take the leap. “I don’t know about this one,” he laughed, “but I’m ready to try something new.”

Reflecting on his early days, Akon reminded fans that his breakthrough single Locked Up was also once considered a risky move. “Nobody wanted to hear about life in prison,” he said. “But I gave it a chance, and look what happened.”

Known for blending genres from Afrobeat to pop, Akon has long flirted with reinvention.

This latest move, he hinted, isn’t a detour but a return to the emotional storytelling that first drew him to music, a way of “singing love and struggle differently.”
