Mariah Carey is once again at the centre of family turmoil as her estranged brother Morgan Carey files a fresh lawsuit accusing the singer of orchestrating a malicious smear campaign. The claim alleges that the global pop icon used her immense influence to promote a viral fan-made video that portrayed him in a damaging light.

According to court documents reported on 15 October 2025, Morgan Carey believes the video titled Morgan Carey: A Deep Dive Into Mariah Carey’s Disturbing Older Brother was strategically amplified by the singer to tarnish his public image. He alleges that Mariah directed her devoted fanbase, known as the Lambs, to the video, intensifying online attacks and reviving painful claims from her 2020 memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey.

The viral video features an audio clip of Mariah reading from her memoir, describing a violent altercation between her brother and their father. Morgan insists these accounts are false and defamatory, adding that the renewed circulation of these claims has caused severe emotional distress.

The sibling feud between Mariah and Morgan dates back years, fuelled by public accusations and legal battles. In 2021, Morgan sued for defamation over similar claims but the court dismissed most of his allegations. His latest legal move marks a determined effort to clear his name after years of being publicly associated with the darker passages of Mariah’s memoir.

The Carey family has long been marked by internal conflict. Mariah’s late sister, Alison Carey, previously sued the singer for emotional distress, accusing her of exploiting family pain for publicity. Although that case was eventually dismissed, it left deep scars and contributed to a pattern of public airing of private grievances.

Mariah has not yet responded publicly to the renewed lawsuit, though legal experts suggest her team will likely argue that she neither produced nor promoted the video. The singer has previously said her memoir reflects her truth and artistic expression.

As the case progresses, public opinion remains divided between sympathy for Mariah’s right to share her story and criticism of the lingering impact on her family. The lawsuit is expected to move forward later this year, continuing a family conflict that shows no sign of resolution.
