Fishermen return after long captivity in India

.

KARACHI:

A total of 54 Pakistani fishermen imprisoned in Indian jails for years have returned home through the Wagah Border, marking an emotional homecoming after a long and difficult detention.

The fishermen, arrested between 2017 and 2021 for allegedly violating Indian maritime boundaries near Sir Creek, were received by Edhi Foundation teams at the border and transported to Karachi in special vehicles arranged by the organisation.

Upon their arrival at the Edhi Tower Centre, they were warmly welcomed with garlands and rose petals showered on them.

Many of the returnees, who belong to various coastal districts of Sindh, recounted harrowing experiences during their imprisonment, claiming they were subjected to "torture and inhumane treatment" by Indian authorities.

Families who had waited years for their loved ones expressed joy and relief upon reuniting at the Edhi Centre.
