An anti-narcotics court has sentenced a Faisalabad-based exporter, Ali Akbar Mirza, to a total of 64 years in prison across three cases related to heroin smuggling under the guise of rice exports.
The court imposed a fine of Rs2.5 million on the convict, who will face an additional 15 month imprisonment in case of non-payment.
Prosecutor Abdul Hanan revealed that the convict was attempting to smuggle heroin to Dubai by hiding it inside rice sacks. However, he was arrested in Faisalabad. During investigation, it was found that Mirza had already sent two containers with concealed drugs to Africa. They were returned and upon inspection, were found to contain 20 kilogrammes of heroin concealed in plastic bags.
