Diane Keaton was honored on Saturday Night Live just hours after news broke of her sudden death at age 79.
The beloved actress, known for her signature collared shirts and timeless charm, was remembered with a heartfelt on-screen tribute during the closing moments of the October 11 episode.
As the credits rolled, a black-and-white photo of Keaton in her younger years appeared, featuring her trademark smile and classic suit-and-tie look. The image was accompanied by a simple title card reading, “Diane Keaton ❤️.” Episode host and SNL alum Amy Poehler paid her own quiet tribute, wearing a similar collared shirt and tie during the farewell.

Following the episode, SNL’s official social media pages shared the same tribute card, prompting an outpouring of emotion from fans. One wrote, “A true icon. Loved that they did this at the end of the episode 😢💔🕊️,” while another said, “Diane was joy personified. I adored everything about her.”
Keaton’s passing was confirmed earlier that day in California, where she lived. Her representative shared that her family requested privacy during this time of mourning. Reports later revealed that emergency responders were called to her home that morning and transported her to a nearby hospital.
Though her cause of death has not been disclosed, close friends revealed that Keaton’s health had “declined very suddenly” in recent months. The Annie Hall star, who battled skin cancer and bulimia earlier in life, was remembered by Hollywood as one of its most enduring and beloved icons.
