KARACHI:

A suspected robber allegedly involved in the murder of a man in front of his children during a robbery in Orangi Town was shot dead in an alleged police encounter on Sunday.

According to officials at the Pakistan Bazaar police station, the suspect, identified as Noor Hussain, alias Nono, was killed during an exchange of fire with police in Sector 11.5 of Orangi Town.

Police said he was wanted for the brutal killing of Sajjad, who was gunned down during a robbery attempt in Muhammad Mustafa Colony on September 28.

DIG Irfan Ali Baloch said the slain suspect's accomplice, Muhammad Bilal, who had been riding the motorcycle during the crime, was arrested three days ago by Iqbal Market police.

"Both men opened fire when the victim resisted the robbery, killing him on the spot in front of his children," DIG Baloch said.

The incident's CCTV footage, which went viral on social media, helped investigators identify the culprits.

Based on leads obtained from the arrested suspect, police carried out a raid to nab Nono, who reportedly opened fire upon seeing the team. Police retaliated, injuring him critically. He later succumbed to his wounds.

Police claimed that they have recovered a weapon, ammunition, mobile phone, and cash from the suspects.

Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar lauded DIG Baloch and his team for their swift action. He said the elimination of a "dangerous and socially harmful criminal" was commendable, adding that such decisive operations were vital to ensuring citizens' safety.
