Real Housewives of Potomac alum Candiace Dillard Bassett has expressed her shock and sadness over the recent arrest of her former co-star, Dr. Wendy Osefo, and Osefo’s husband, Eddie Osefo, who were indicted on multiple fraud charges earlier this month.
“I am shocked. I’m sad,” Candiace said during an October 10 appearance on FOX 5 DC. The 38-year-old reality star revealed she learned about the news just moments before going on air. “I’m literally just getting this news with you all,” she said, adding that she was “shaking” from the revelation.
Both Wendy and Eddie, 41, were arrested in Westminster, Maryland, on October 9 following a grand jury indictment that included charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and making false statements to law enforcement. The charges stem from an alleged false burglary report in April 2024, where the couple claimed over $450,000 in stolen goods.
Candiace questioned whether the Osefos were being unfairly targeted, pointing to their marijuana business and contributions to the community. “They are providing jobs and opportunities for people of color in the DMV. My first thought is, ‘Are they being targeted?’” she said.
Referencing fellow RHOP cast member Karen Huger’s recent legal troubles, Candiace added, “Karen just came home… But one might opine, perhaps, Karen was made an example of.”
She described herself as “heartbroken,” noting that Wendy never hinted anything was wrong. “It just feels like someone is out to get the girls,” she said, referencing the legal issues now affecting two cast members from the show.
Despite the controversy, a representative for the Osefos stated the couple is in “good spirits” and are focused on their family and legal proceedings. They are expected to appear in court on November 7.
