Twitch confirms armed police presence at TwitchCon 2025 amid streamer safety withdrawals

Twitch confirms armed law enforcement and entry checks at TwitchCon as safety concerns prompt streamers to withdraw

Twitch has confirmed that armed law enforcement will be present at TwitchCon 2025 following growing concerns about safety from streamers and attendees.

Several popular streamers, including Valkyrae, Pokimane, Hasan, Asmongold, and QTCinderella, have announced they will not attend, citing fears for personal and fan safety.

QTCinderella referenced the killing of Japanese streamer Airi Sato in March 2025, while Hasan mentioned the recent assassination of political commentator Charlie Kirk as reasons for concern.

In response, Twitch released a blog post on October 8 outlining extensive safety plans. The company said it will enforce “robust security measures” with strict entry screening and “rigorous access control protocols.” A command centre will monitor the venue using “highly trained security teams,” with both uniformed and plainclothes personnel on-site.

Twitch confirmed collaboration with the San Diego Police Department to ensure armed officers are stationed at the event. It also stated that anyone indefinitely banned from Twitch will be denied entry, and those who violate the Events Code of Conduct may face removal and future bans.

“TwitchCon San Diego is for community and celebration,” the company said. “We’re focused on making this year’s event the best one yet.”

The statement follows years of criticism over past TwitchCons, including safety incidents at the 2022 event. Twitch maintains that it continues to refine its protocols to provide a secure environment for all attendees.

The event will take place from October 17–19 in San Diego, marking the platform’s tenth annual convention.
