KARACHI:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership has entrusted the newly-nominated chief minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, with the critical responsibility of restoring peace in the province, party sources told this correspondent.

According to PTI insiders, the leadership decided to make a change in the provincial top slot primarily due to the worsening law and order situation in K-P. They said that Afridi will outline his priorities after formally taking the oath of office.

He is expected to unveil his policy framework in line with the vision of the party's founder, they sources said, adding that the incoming chief minister will take a multi-pronged approach to bring peace to the province, including consultations with the federal government and other stakeholders.

"A detailed review of the security situation in K-P will be conducted, and a long-term and integrated strategy for peace will be formulated," one senior PTI leader disclosed. "The party believes that only a unified and inclusive approach involving all stakeholders can lead to sustainable peace in the province."

The PTI sources maintained that the leadership is not fully satisfied with the current federal policy towards K-P and is advocating for a unified national approach to security issues in the province.

It has also been learnt that the new chief minister will reach out to political leadership across the board to take them into confidence. "Efforts will be made to ensure a broad-based consultation process for a durable peace policy," added another source.

On the other hand, key figures within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have assured that the federal government will extend full support to the new provincial government in its efforts to restore peace in the province.
