KARACHI:

Former Prime Minister and Awam Pakistan Party chief Shahid Khaqan Abbasi delivered a scathing critique of the Sindh government and Pakistan's economic trajectory during a fiery press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday. Joined by former Finance Minister Miftah Ismail, Abbasi painted a grim picture of Karachi's condition, warning that "Pakistan cannot progress until Karachi does."

Abbasi lashed out at the ruling party in Sindh, accusing it of failing to deliver even basic necessities to Karachi's citizens. "Seventeen years of continuous rule, and yet the people of Karachi don't have clean drinking water," he said. He highlighted the crumbling infrastructure in SITE and other industrial zones, calling the roads "ruined" and the urban landscape "devastated."

He added, "We gave Karachi every rupee it asked for during our tenure. But today, extortion slips come with bullets."

Abbasi declared that there is "no hope for economic recovery this year," blaming four years of economic decline, poor planning, and rampant inflation.
