NFL star Travis Kelce couldn’t hide his amusement when asked about fiancée Taylor Swift’s risqué new track, “Wood,” from her album The Life of a Showgirl. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was put on the spot by his brother, Jason Kelce, during a teaser for their New Heights podcast on October 7. “How do you feel about ‘Wood’?” Jason asked with a grin—prompting Travis to burst out laughing, throwing his head back as fans flooded the comments with jokes.
The song’s playful lyrics use double entendres and superstitions—like knocking on wood—to explore themes of love, luck, and intimacy. Many listeners, however, have interpreted the track as a cheeky nod to Travis himself. Swift describes the song as a “sentimental love story” built around metaphors of good fortune, adding that she enjoys how people can read it in different ways. “You see in that song what you want to see in that song,” she explained during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Morning Mash Up.
Travis, 35, avoided giving a direct answer about the song’s meaning but expressed his pride in Swift and her artistic evolution. “It’s been so fun to see everybody’s reactions,” he said. “Watching her on her press tour—she’s looked amazing, sounded amazing, and this album is absolutely amazing.”
Swift, also 35, revealed that even her mother, Andrea Swift, took the lyrics literally, believing the song was just about superstitions. “That’s the joy of the double entendre,” Taylor joked.
While full details of Travis’ reaction will air in the complete New Heights episode, his laughter and admiration made one thing clear—the couple is embracing both the humor and heart behind The Life of a Showgirl’s most talked-about track.
