Is the ‘Fast & Furious’ finale happening? Vin Diesel hints at future plans
Vin Diesel has spoken out in the wake of mounting speculation that the long-promised Fast & Furious finale could be cancelled. Reports last week suggested that the franchise’s closing chapter was facing uncertainty, with a completed script still missing and studio concerns over its rising budget.
The Wall Street Journal claimed Universal Pictures wanted to keep the cost under $200 million, but the current draft was closer to $250 million. Proposals included trimming the cast or scaling back international locations, a move that would shift focus back to Los Angeles, something Diesel himself has previously pushed for.
Rather than addressing the rumours directly, the star shared a series of cryptic Instagram updates. Posting alongside Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty Ortiz, Diesel reflected on the future of the saga, writing: “I have often said… Creativity is the key to all things. When you maintain the integrity, the rest follows. #happycreativesunday.”
In another update, Diesel praised the bond between the cast and fans. “She’s seen it all. Multiple studio owners, countless executives coming and going… but one thing has never wavered, the connection between the Fast family and fans around the world. That bond? That’s unbreakable. That’s what transcends business decisions and bottom lines.”
While not an outright confirmation, his words reassured fans that the spirit of the franchise is still alive. Diesel also teased that the next film will honour the roots of the saga while venturing into new territory. “What we’re building next is going to honour all that you love about Fast while taking you somewhere you’ve never been before,” he promised.
Back in June, the actor hinted at three conditions he had set for the final film: a return to Los Angeles, a focus on car culture and street racing, and the long-awaited reunion between his character Dominic Toretto and Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner, despite the actor’s passing in 2013.
For now, no official confirmation has been given on the status of the finale, though Diesel’s posts suggest fans may not need to give up hope just yet.
