Leighton Meester is stepping into the Netflix comedy Nobody Wants This for its second season, and she promises fans that her character is set to bring some chaos. In a recent interview with People, the 39-year-old actress revealed she will be playing Abby, a former middle school nemesis of Kristen Bell’s character Joanne, which guarantees sparks when the pair are reunited.
“I don’t know what I can tell you, but I do inevitably stir up some drama there,” Meester teased, hinting that Abby’s arrival will shake up the dynamic. She also shared her enthusiasm for joining the series, calling herself a fan of the show and praising the cast and crew. “I was really taken by everybody’s kindness and their talent, and how that whole show came together. It was one of the most fun times I’ve had on a set.”
Adding to the excitement, Meester will be acting opposite her husband, Adam Brody, who stars as Noah, a newly single rabbi navigating a relationship with Joanne, an agnostic sex podcaster played by Bell. The pair’s cultural and personal differences form the heart of the series, which debuted in 2024 and quickly gained a devoted audience.
Though much of Meester’s screen time will reportedly be with Bell and Justine Lupe rather than Brody, the casting still has fans eager to see how the couple will share the screen. At the 2025 Emmy Awards, Brody reflected on the experience, saying he loved watching his wife work with the rest of the cast and admired her talent from the sidelines.
Season 1 ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, leaving viewers anxious for answers. Netflix announced the renewal only a month after its debut, and with season 2 arriving on October 23, the addition of Meester promises to heighten both tension and comedy.
The new season sees Joanne and Noah more committed than ever, but still facing challenges in merging their lives. With Abby’s return from the past, that commitment will be put to the test. Meester’s comments suggest her character could be the key to stirring conflict that reshapes the central relationship.
Fans will not have to wait long to see how it all unfolds when Nobody Wants This returns later this month.
