Treyarch has confirmed that Black Ops 7’s beta will introduce a new multiplayer playlist aimed at easing long-standing player frustrations over skill-based matchmaking.
In a statement released on October 4 2025, the developer announced that the beta now features Open Moshpit, a standalone playlist where “skill consideration is drastically reduced” when forming lobbies. The goal, according to Treyarch, is to “provide more varied match experiences and outcomes.”
Skill-based matchmaking, or SBMM, has been a divisive issue among Call of Duty players for years. Although the feature has existed since 2007’s Modern Warfare, it has become increasingly noticeable in recent entries.
Many fans have argued that it limits casual play and creates repetitive, highly competitive matchups that prevent the more relaxed gameplay experience earlier titles offered.
The new Open Moshpit mode seeks to address these concerns by mixing players of different skill levels. Both Moshpit and Open Moshpit are currently available in the beta, featuring the same maps and modes.
Maps currently accessible include Impring, Cortex, Exposure, and The Forge. The supported game modes are Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, and Overload.
While the addition of Open Moshpit marks a notable experiment, Treyarch has reminded players that beta features are subject to change before the full release in November. Player feedback from the beta is expected to influence how matchmaking functions in the final version of the game.
Fans have already expressed optimism on social platforms, viewing the move as a potential step toward more balanced and enjoyable lobbies. Treyarch continues to update its beta patch notes as testing progresses.
