Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, has set a new milestone in music sales, moving 2.7 million copies within its first 24 hours of release, according to data from Luminate reported by Billboard. The figure marks the strongest opening day of Swift’s career and positions the record as the second-largest sales week in history — despite having been available for less than a full week. The only album to surpass it remains Adele’s 25, which sold 3.8 million copies in its debut week back in 2015.
The data from Luminate accounts solely for U.S. sales, combining physical purchases, digital downloads, and pre-orders. In addition to breaking digital and physical sales records, The Life of a Showgirl has also achieved the highest-ever weekly vinyl sales, with 1.2 million copies sold. Swift broke her own previous record, which was set in 2024 when The Tortured Poets Department sold 859,000 vinyl units.
Streaming platforms also reported record-breaking numbers. Within 12 hours of the album’s release, Spotify announced that Showgirl had become the most-streamed album in a single day on its platform for 2025. Apple Music confirmed that it achieved the year’s highest single-day streaming total, while Amazon Music reported it as their most-streamed album ever in a 24-hour period.
To accompany the album’s launch, Swift premiered a short theatrical event titled Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, which dominated the U.S. box office over the Oct. 3–5 weekend.
With The Life of a Showgirl, Swift continues to expand her dominance in both the music and entertainment industries, breaking multiple records within hours of release and reaffirming her position as one of the most influential artists of her generation.
