Sean “Diddy” Combs could spend six to seven years in prison, according to Judge Arun Subramanian, who indicated that sentencing guidelines suggest between 70 and 87 months of jail time.
The hip-hop mogul appeared in a New York courtroom as prosecutors and defense attorneys delivered final arguments before his sentence is confirmed.
Combs, convicted on two counts of transportation for prostitution, was found guilty of organizing cross-country trips for what he called “freak-offs,” involving girlfriends and male sex workers. Prosecutors have demanded a sentence of at least 11 years, describing Combs as “a danger at any age” and arguing that a lighter punishment would minimize years of abuse.
Defense attorneys pushed back strongly, asking the judge for a 14-month sentence — essentially time already served. Lawyer Brian Steel described Combs as “completely broken” and suggested he could use his experiences to educate others about the consequences of crime. Another defense attorney, Nicole Westmoreland, grew emotional as she highlighted Combs’ cultural and business influence, arguing he remains remorseful.
The court also heard deeply personal statements from Combs’ adult children, who pleaded with the judge for leniency. Several broke down in tears, calling their father a changed man and urging that he be allowed to return home.
Despite these emotional appeals, the judge’s remarks suggested he intends to follow federal guidelines rather than deviate toward the harsher or lighter sentences proposed by either side. Combs has already served just over 12 months in custody, which will be credited toward his final term.
The official sentencing decision is expected soon, with national attention focused on whether Diddy will face the minimum guideline or the prosecution’s harsher request.
