Kirsten Dunst has expressed openness to reprising her role as Mary Jane Watson in a potential Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire.
The actress, who portrayed MJ in Sam Raimi’s original Marvel trilogy, recently addressed fan hopes during an appearance on The Supes Show.
Dunst said she would be interested in exploring a new chapter where MJ and Peter Parker navigate life as parents. “That would be cool, right? I mean, I don’t know if the fans are into it. I feel like that is an interesting movie, right? Me and Tobey doing that again...with kids,” she shared.
While Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are currently focused on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is in production, speculation about continuing Maguire’s storyline has remained strong since his multiverse return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That film hinted that Maguire’s Peter and MJ are still together, leaving the door open for future stories.
Raimi originally planned a Spider-Man 4 for 2011, but the project was canceled due to creative differences, leading Sony to reboot the franchise with Andrew Garfield. In recent years, however, both Raimi and Maguire have suggested they would be open to returning, making Dunst’s comments another significant piece of the puzzle.
Fans believe a film exploring Peter and MJ as parents, while balancing superhero responsibilities, could offer a fresh perspective on the Marvel couple. While nothing has been confirmed, Dunst’s enthusiasm adds momentum to the idea of revisiting Raimi’s Spider-Man universe in a future installment.
