Dengue: Sindh govt imposes 60-day ban on public swimming pools
Ban imposed under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code.
KARACHI:
The government of Sindh imposed a ban on operating public swimming pools in the province to avoid the spread of dengue, Express 24/7 reported on Wednesday.
The ban was imposed under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and covers all schools, clubs, hostels and farm houses.
According to health experts, the dengue virus flourishes on clean stagnant water and this move is an effort to minimize the potential spread of the epidemic in the province.

The time period from September to December is the peak season for dengue in the country, said teams working to control the disease.
The total number of cases last reported in Sindh is 317, while around 8,000 cases have surfaced in Punjab.
Owing to the rising number of dengue cases in Lahore, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) earlier shifted the National Twenty20 Championship from Lahore to National Stadium in Karachi on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari.
The Government of Punjab also imposed Section 144 in Lahore to ban washing of cars in the streets and to fix charges for laboratory tests in a bid to control the epidemic.
