Taylor Swift’s latest release, The Life of a Showgirl, has quickly become the center of fan discussion — and surprisingly, much of it involves her ex-boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

The album, described as upbeat and celebratory, sharply contrasts with 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department, a record rooted in heartbreak. This tonal shift has led many listeners to draw comparisons between Alwyn and Swift’s current fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce. On social media, fans joked that the brighter sound reflects what happens when Alwyn is the muse. One viral post quipped, “See what happens when Joe Alwyn is your muse and not some man who bangs spoons together whenever he wants Taylor to cook dinner for him,” referencing Kelce.

Alwyn, who co-wrote several of Swift’s songs under the pseudonym William Bowery, contributed to folklore, evermore, and Midnights. During their relationship, Swift praised their shared love of melancholy ballads, including their work on “Champagne Problems.” By contrast, Swift described Kelce as “a real vibes guy” in a recent BBC Radio 1 interview, highlighting their different creative energies.

While Alwyn does not appear on the credits for The Life of a Showgirl, Swift collaborated with longtime producers Max Martin and Shellback. Speaking on the New Heights podcast, she explained that the trio created some of her “favorite songs ever,” and this project marked their first time working together exclusively.

Swift has described the album as “catching lightning in a bottle,” assuring fans that while it’s joyful, it still “has teeth.” Whether or not Alwyn responds to the record remains uncertain, but for many, his presence continues to linger in Swift’s artistic evolution.
