Now you’ll need biometric verification for new power connections in Islamabad
Getting a new electricity connection in Islamabad just got a lot more personal as you’ll now need to verify your identity through biometrics before the lights come on.
The Islamabad Electric Supply Company has teamed up with NADRA Technologies Limited to roll out mandatory biometric verification for all new electricity connections and reconnections. The move, officials say, is aimed at making power distribution more transparent, secure, and consumer-friendly.
What it means for consumers
From now on, anyone applying for a new electricity connection, or reconnecting after a disconnection, will have to go through biometric verification. The measure is designed to eliminate bogus and unauthorised connections, tighten accountability, and prevent fraud.
Officials believe the step will not only streamline service delivery but also help build trust between consumers and the utility provider.

The agreement was signed at IESCO’s head office by IESCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Chaudhry Khalid Mehmood and NTL Chief Executive Officer Umar Khan Azad. The initiative falls in line with the federal government and the Ministry of Energy’s push for digitalisation of public services.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engineer Khalid Mehmood stressed the need for upgrading systems to meet growing consumer demands. “This partnership with NADRA Technologies will not only improve operational efficiency but also reinforce public trust in our services,” he said.
NTL CEO Umar Khan Azad echoed the sentiment, highlighting NADRA’s role in applying secure technology to governance. “Secure identity verification is the cornerstone of transparent governance, and we are proud to support IESCO in this transformative journey,” he remarked.
