Tashawnda Drayton, professionally known as Rapper 23 Brazy, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 10-year-old La’Marj Holden and the wounding of a 37-year-old man.
The plea was entered on October 2, 2025, in Southampton County Circuit Court.
The shooting occurred last year after authorities allege that Drayton, along with three others, went to the 37-year-old man’s residence following an argument.
During the incident, both the man and Holden were struck by gunfire. The man survived his injuries, while Holden tragically died at a nearby hospital.
Drayton was originally charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and multiple firearm-related offenses.
She is scheduled for sentencing in December 2025 and faces a prison term ranging from five to 40 years.
The arrest followed a ten-month manhunt, during which the US Marshals Service offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to her capture.
Robert Bowers of the US Marshals Service described the case as especially significant due to the involvement of a juvenile victim, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to ensuring justice.
Authorities reported that Drayton surrendered peacefully after a family member came forward. Those who assisted or harbored her could face additional charges for aiding a fugitive.
The case has drawn attention nationwide due to the tragic loss of a child and the violent circumstances surrounding the incident, underscoring ongoing concerns about gun violence and accountability.
