Peaky Blinders sequel series ordered for two seasons at Netflix
The acclaimed series Peaky Blinders is set to return with a new sequel series focusing on a fresh generation of the Shelby family. Created and written by Steven Knight, the follow-up will be set in 1953 Britain and has received a two-season order from Netflix and the BBC. Although the cast remains undisclosed, original star Cillian Murphy will serve as an executive producer.
Set in post-World War II Birmingham, the new series explores the city’s rebuilding efforts after the devastation of the Blitz. According to the official plot summary, “After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”
The sequel will be produced by Kudos, known for SAS Rogue Heroes and House of Guinness, alongside Garrison Drama, which produced the original Peaky Blinders series and the upcoming Peaky Blinders film. Filming is planned to take place in Birmingham at Digbeth Loc. Studios.
Steven Knight expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”
Each of the two new seasons will consist of six hour-long episodes. Besides Knight and Murphy, the project’s executive producers include Karen Wilson and Martin Haines for Kudos, Jamie Glazebrook for Garrison Drama, Jo McClellan and Danielle Scott Haughton for the BBC, and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley for Netflix.
In addition to the sequel series, fans can look forward to a Peaky Blinders film titled The Immortal Man, slated for release in early 2026. The film, written by Knight and directed by Tom Harper, stars Murphy alongside Stephen Graham, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, and Barry Keoghan. It is expected to continue the story from where the original series concluded.
