QUETTA:

The death toll from the devastating suicide bombing near the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters in Quetta has climbed to 12, after two more injured victims succumbed to their wounds during treatment, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Medical authorities said 24 of the wounded have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, while eight remain under treatment. Two patients are still in critical condition at the Trauma Center. Doctors assured that all emergency resources and specialized care are being extended to the survivors.

The powerful blast struck on Tuesday evening at the eastern bypass of Quetta, instantly killing 10 people and injuring 33 others. The explosion was so intense it reverberated across distant neighborhoods, including Model Town, shattering glass windows of nearby homes and businesses, and spreading panic among residents.

According to security officials, the suicide attacker wore a Frontier Corps uniform and was accompanied by five heavily armed terrorists. Security personnel swiftly retaliated, engaging in a fierce gun battle. All six assailants were killed in the exchange, though two FC men sustained injuries.

Law enforcement agencies recovered 15 hand grenades, several automatic rifles, and nearly 30 kilograms of explosives from the attackers. Investigators said the explosives were used to prepare the deadly suicide vest.

Police have registered a case at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) under sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act, murder, attempted murder, and other grave charges. Authorities said investigators are actively pursuing leads to trace the terrorists' facilitators and support networks.

In a statement, officials vowed to conduct a thorough investigation and bring to justice not only the perpetrators but also those providing shelter or logistical support. The government has reiterated its commitment to eliminating terrorism in all its forms, while security forces have heightened vigilance across Quetta to prevent further attacks.
