Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner file defamation lawsuit against Ray J

Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner have filed a defamation lawsuit against singer Ray J, accusing him of spreading false and damaging claims that they are under federal criminal investigation. The lawsuit, filed Wednesday, centers on statements Ray J made suggesting the mother-daughter duo is involved in a racketeering conspiracy.
According to the complaint, Ray J—who dated Kardashian two decades ago—allegedly claimed during a livestream on September 24 that a federal RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) case was imminent against both women.

Kardashian and Jenner’s legal team, led by high-profile attorney Alex Spiro, stated that Ray J’s remarks echo a longstanding pattern of inflammatory and sensationalized statements made to exploit the Kardashians’ fame. The complaint also points to a May interview on a TMZ special, where Ray J claimed that criminal charges against the two would be “appropriate.”
The Kardashians allege that these repeated falsehoods have triggered a wave of media speculation about potential federal charges, despite no such investigation existing. The lawsuit emphasizes that Ray J’s statements were not protected opinion but defamatory claims intended to be interpreted as factual.
The complaint also highlights Ray J’s comparison of the Kardashians’ alleged situation to that of Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently facing federal trafficking and RICO allegations. This comparison, the suit argues, further fueled unwarranted public suspicion.
Kardashian and Jenner are seeking unspecified damages for the reputational harm caused. As of now, Ray J has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
