Shirley Curry, widely known as “Skyrim Grandma,” has announced she is retiring from uploading Skyrim videos after more than a decade of creating gaming content. Approaching her 90th birthday, Curry told her audience in a new vlog that she is stepping away because she is no longer enjoying it.
“I am no longer going to be uploading Skyrim [videos],” she said, explaining that the process has become tiring. Curry, who has more than a million followers and is even set to appear as a character in The Elder Scrolls 6, said she feels her content is not receiving the kind of engagement she hoped for.
“I have a few older regular viewers, but most of them seem to be very young kids, children, and I'm not getting any feedback from them on the videos. All I get is 'Hi grandma, I love you grandma'. That isn't what I was spending my time on making and uploading videos for,” she added.
This is not the first time Curry has stepped back. In 2024, she announced she would no longer post gaming videos but later returned in December with renewed interest, even exploring Oblivion Remastered earlier this year. Whether she will return again remains uncertain, though Curry emphasised her decision is based on fatigue and a lack of fun.
While she plans to stop Skyrim uploads, Curry intends to share occasional vlogs when she has updates for her older viewers. Fans can also continue to interact with her through her blog or by using the Skyrim mod that adds her as a companion character.
“This has come to this because I'll soon be 90 years old,” Curry said. “Every time I come up with a new idea of how to play a story in Skyrim… I may make one or two or three with a new character and then I'm just bored again.”
