Court seeks money trail for return of Rs10m

.

RAWALPINDI:

Civil Judge Sofia Malik has refused to return Rs10 million in recovered cash to two individuals, rejecting their custody request. The court ruled that due to the large amount involved, a money trail is essential. The applicants must disclose the source and purpose of the funds.

Cantonment police had recovered Rs10 million from two young men on September 24 during a routine checkpoint in Saddar Bazaar. Abdul Basit and Abbas Afridi were carrying the cash on a motorcycle when police stopped them and found the money during a search.

The amount was deemed suspicious and seized. When asked for a money trail at the police station, the two failed to provide one. The individuals claimed the money was theirs and requested it be returned as per law.
