Disney’s 20th Century Studios has announced that The Simpsons Movie 2 will release on July 23, 2027, marking the long-awaited sequel to the 2007 hit.
The release date was confirmed after the film replaced an untitled Marvel project on Disney’s schedule. This shift leaves a gap in the Marvel Cinematic Universe slate, with no new MCU installment between Avengers: Doomsday (December 18, 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 17, 2027).
While plot details for the new Simpsons movie remain under wraps, Disney unveiled the first teaser poster on Instagram, featuring the franchise’s iconic pink donut with the tagline: “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”
Created by Matt Groening, The Simpsons is the longest-running animated series in television history, already renewed through its 40th season, which will air in 2028 and 2029. The show follows the daily lives of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie in the fictional town of Springfield.
The first Simpsons Movie, directed by David Silverman, was released in 2007 and became a box office success, earning $536 million worldwide against a $75 million budget. Talks of a sequel have circulated for years, but this marks the first official confirmation with a set release date.
Fans of the franchise can now mark their calendars for the summer of 2027, when the Simpsons family makes their big-screen return.
