Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 champion, announced the death of his beloved bulldog Roscoe on Sunday evening, September 28, 2025, in an emotional Instagram post. According to Hamilton, Roscoe spent four days on life support, battling until the very end, before he made the difficult decision to “say goodbye.”
In his post, Hamilton described Roscoe as a “beautiful soul, an angel and true friend,” and said bringing him into his life was “the best decision I ever made.” He added that although he had lost another dog, Coco, previously, this was the first time he had needed to make the decision to euthanize a pet, acknowledging how painful and heart-wrenching that choice was. Hamilton thanked supporters for their prayers and messages of love over the years, calling Roscoe’s journey “so special to witness and feel.”
Earlier in the week, Hamilton had shared a more urgent health update, revealing that Roscoe had been hospitalised with pneumonia and was struggling to breathe. During checks at the veterinary hospital, Roscoe’s heart stopped momentarily; veterinarians revived it, but he remained in a coma. Hamilton said he stayed by his side, uncertain whether Roscoe would wake, and asked fans to keep the bulldog in their thoughts and prayers.
To remain close to Roscoe during this critical period, Hamilton withdrew from a scheduled Pirelli tyre test at Mugello, Italy. Ferrari confirmed that reserve driver Zhou Guanyu took his place at the test.
Roscoe, who was about 12 years old at the time of his passing, had accompanied Hamilton throughout many seasons, often appearing in the paddock and on social media. His own Instagram account attracted more than a million followers.
Hamilton’s post concluded by reflecting on loss, love, and memory: “Although it was so hard, having him was one of the most beautiful parts of life — to love so deeply and to be loved in return.” He said he would “forever cherish the memories we created together.”
