Six youth die in car accident
A collision between a car and a bus on Hasilpur Road claimed the lives of six young friends.
The deceased 8ncluded brothers Umar and Umair, while Sameer was the only son of his parents.
The other three victims also belonged to the same village and were close friends.
According to sources, Umar and Umair had gone to drop off their brother at Multan Airport for his departure to the United Kingdom and were returning to Faisalabad when their friends asked them to accompany them to Hasilpur to visit relatives.
They set out for Hasilpur along with their cousin Sameer and friends.
The traffic accident took place near Head Islam.
The collision between the car of the victims and a bus left all the six young men dead on the spot.
Their ages ranged between 20 and 25 years.
Residents of the area said the accident was apparently a result of speeding and negligence while driving.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also expressed grief over the accident and sought a report from the authorities concerned.
The fatal accident occurred while the vehicles were attempting to overtake a truck.
Two other people were injured in the collision.
Five of the deceased were identified as 20-year-old Umar, 25-year-old Talha, 22-year-old Haider, 23-year-old Abu Bakar and 23-year-old Hasnain. All six victims were residents of Faisalabad.
The bus driver, Salamat Ali from Lahore, and conductor Muhammad Saleem from Vehari were injured.
Rescue 1122 teams transported the deceased and injured to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital.
The car was destroyed in the collision, while the bus was damaged.
Eyewitnesses said both veg8cles involved i the collosiin were attempting to overtake the truck at high speed.
The local police were conducting an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, at least 17 people died, whereas 1,693 were injured in 1,451 road traffic crashes recorded across Punjab during the last 24 hours. After the accidents, 724 people were shifted to hospitals, while 969 others with minor injuries were treated at the incident sites by Rescue Medical Teams. Rescue data showed that 941 adult and 66 underage drivers, 187 pedestrians and 582 passengers were among the victims.
The statistics showed that 280 RTCs were reported in Lahore, which affected 339 persons, followed by 101 in Multan with 113 victims and 96 in Faisalabad also with 113 victims.
Of the victims, 1,354 were male and 356 female, while 261 were under 18 years of age, 962 between 18 and 40 years, 487 above 40 years.
