ISLAMABAD:

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police claimed on Sunday to have arrested four suspects after a Vigo struck an Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) officer on duty in the federal capital - an incident that also provoked sharp outrage from Chief Traffic Officer (CTO).

An official told the media that the incident took place late on Saturday night, when a black Vigo attempted to run down the officer before speeding away. A video circulating online shows the vehicle making a brazen attempt to crush the on-duty officer.

CTO Hamza Humayun immediately took notice of the matter and, in a wireless message, expressed his displeasure at learning of the incident via social media rather than through official channels.

He reiterated that the law applies equally to all, regardless of social status, and ordered that the suspects be tracked through Safe City cameras and other resources.

According to the First Information Report (FIR No 3140/25) lodged at Kohsar Police Station on the complaint of ASI Nadir Khan, the Vigo (registration ICT AWU-66) hit the officer at around 9:10pm and fled. The case has been registered under sections 353, 186 and 279 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The official added that joint teams of the ITP and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CIA) launched a swift operation, arresting four suspects.
